Q ~Hey KayaI have a question for you: How would you define / describe the difference between agni and rajas? Thank you!
A ~ So! I can see where you are going with this, since some of the descriptors of agni and rajas overlap. It is a very good question, and to me shows that you are really seeing the principles at play. But essentially, the problem is in trying to overlay two separate sets of categories. I asked Michael ~ master of categories as he is ~ to comment on this. He was the one who suggested that we inquire into which one ~ rajas or agni ~ you are attempting to understand with this question, because then we can better teach you about that category {the three gunas, or agni, soma, prana}... He also said it would be like asking me, "what is the difference between being a wife and a mother"... you see there is crossover, but they are independent categories. Okay... so! Rajas, is one of the threads of existence, described in the sankhya model.
Rajas is THE QUALITY OF DYNAMISTM WHICH can cause AN ONGOING CYCLE OF SUFFERING. Rajas is
Rajas is movement in essence. And YES, Agni moves. And yes, some of these descriptors can be used to describe agni as well… but rajas does not require agni. For example, the WIND BLOWING is made of rajas, but has ZERO agni. Does that make sense? Those who did the Bhagavād Gīta course with me can recall Gita Chapter 14… along with a few other chapters which describe the three gunas as well. We dive into them pretty extensively in thte gīta.
Ideally, we have a balanced amount of agni while we develop sattva guna, so that we can take right, purposeful, aspiring action in the world, but with a sense of peace and harmony.
Q ~ I am still confused about Soma/Agni in terms of Kundalini. Kundalini being Divine Feminine and at the same time we are saying it is Agni - or is it that the process itself is Agni? Just looking for a better understanding here, thanks!
A ~ To put it simply... we can say that: In the world, Agni is masculine and Soma is feminine, while in the subtle body, these cosmic consorts flip, Soma is Śiva and Kundalini Fire is Śakti.
Sometimes we try to take a metaphor TOO far... understand that a metaphor serves a purpose and then we let it go... we use the english terms masculine / feminine in order to gain some understanding about principles / categories... but it is not going to apply 100% of the time in the linear way we would like it to... for example, the moon, Chandra, is often referred to as "Chandra Ma" - the mother moon, and then also Chandra Deva {lord moon, who is in male form}. Passivity is associated with the left nādi, the feminine principle of allowance, and yet the Shiva principle is one of silence, and is also associated with the moon, Shiva being a "masculine" form. The divine Soma is cool in nature, and associated with the feminine, but also with Shiva. The divine Kundalini is associated with fire which is masculine, and agni, and is active in nature also seen as masculine, aspiration etc, but then is Shakti, dances. Feminine quality is allowance, but then shakti is seen as the dance of manifestation, and is seen as feminine in nature... so see these layers? Cool soma is feminine, but then semen is cold in nature. Hot agni is masculine, but then the female reproductive system rests upon the menstrual blood which is hot in nature. The umbilical cord is also a penis. Are you more confused now?
